Bhutanese Wellbeing Association UK

Staying Bhutanese – Living in the UK

We are a community of Bhutanese families, students and professionals making a home in the United Kingdom – staying rooted in our Bhutanese values while caring for one another's wellbeing.

Whether you are new to the UK or have been here for many years, this association is a place to connect, seek support, come together for important national occasions, and share our heritage.

His Majesty The King of Bhutan

From His Majesty The King, to Bhutanese living abroad

“To our fellow Bhutanese living abroad, know that you are always in my thoughts. You are part of the reason why we conceived this Gelephu project. Even though you are away from home, I know your hearts are with us in Bhutan. You yearn to be home with your family and friends. If you could choose, you would be here. The Gelephu project is to enable you to return. In the meantime, please work hard and gain knowledge and skills. Your experience and exposure overseas will be invaluable for Bhutan as we build our future together.”

His Majesty’s Address to the Nation on National Day 2023

“It was a bittersweet experience, as on one hand, it was heartening to see how our people, after many years away from home, are thriving, working hard to support themselves and their families, and upholding our traditions and values with pride. On the other hand, their deeply emotional welcome showed how much they miss their home and loved ones, and the difficulty of being apart. This is why I am determined to create the conditions that will allow Bhutanese all over the world to return home and enjoy the same opportunities they have sought abroad.”
